Office Admin & THCAN Referral System Administrator

London | 21 Hours| £27,200  | 31st March 2025

Island Advice Centre is seeking an IT and THCAN Administrator to provide technical and administrative support to our team. This role involves managing IT systems, assisting with office administration, and overseeing the THCAN referral system to ensure smooth and efficient operations. The successful candidate will support staff and volunteers with IT tasks, maintain websites, and engage with partner organisations to expand the THCAN network, while providing training and technical assistance to system users.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

  • Provide IT support to staff and volunteers, managing and updating laptops, profiles, and licenses.
  • Maintain and update the Island Advice Centre and THCAN websites.
  • Oversee the THCAN referral system, monitoring activities and supporting users.
  • Engage with organisations to expand the THCAN network and register new members.
  • Assist with general office administration, including managing calendars, appointment reminders, and stationery orders.
  • Deliver training and technical support to users of the THCAN referral system.
  • Ensure confidentiality, adhere to policies, and contribute to service improvement.

Debt Caseworker

Island Advice Centre is seeking a Debt Adviser to work directly with clients facing financial hardship and indebtedness. This role involves providing advice, advocacy, and casework to alleviate financial challenges and improve financial capability.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will :

  • Provide tailored debt advice, casework, and income maximization interventions.
  • Advise on debts, court processes, and insolvency options while negotiating with creditors.
  • Deliver outreach sessions, support volunteers, and occasionally cover general advice services.
  • Maintain accurate case records and meet funder and regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold professional standards through training, collaboration, and commitment to equal opportunities.

Trainee Debt Adviser

Island Advice Centre is seeking a Trainee Debt Adviser to be the first point of contact for clients facing financial hardship and debt issues. Under the supervision of a Debt Supervisor, the role involves providing advice, advocacy, and casework to help alleviate financial difficulties and support clients in managing their debt.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will :

  • Provide debt advice, assess situations, and support financial interventions.
  • Advise on debts, court processes, and non-payment implications.
  • Assist with casework, negotiations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Conduct outreach sessions and cover generalist advice services as needed.
  • Maintain case records, attend meetings, and stay updated on professional standards.

VOLUNTEERING

Advice Work training Project

Participants attend a one-year training course to learn the skills and knowledge needed to become an advice worker.  They volunteer for two days per week for a year, one day doing a comprehensive training course and the other volunteering in an advice centre in Tower Hamlets.

The training covers advice skills – policies and practices in advice such as interviewing, case recording, negotiation skills, letter writing, confidentiality, equal opportunities, welfare benefits, housing, debt, employment, immigration and an outline of consumer rights.

The volunteering work placement involves carrying out advice and advocacy work duties including interviewing clients, assisting with basic advice, form filling, helping with basic advice issues, etc.

Law Students – Advice Work Placements

We offer voluntary work placements. Work will involve interviewing clients, assisting with welfare rights, debt and housing enquiries, doing follow-up letters and casework. All the work is supervised and there are some training sessions available. You must be available for one full-day per week for a minimum of 6 months (preferably longer).
