For as much fuss Vegeta makes about needing to team up with Gohan and Krillin to fight the Ginyu Force, hes awfully quick to abandon Goku in a fight against both Captain Ginyu & Jeice. Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin step in to try and hold off Frieza while Goku gathers energy for the attack. I never really understood this. Gohan has grown from being a frightened child unable to defend himself to someone who can stand up to protect the weak. Vegetas considerably humbled by the end of, , accepting Goku as the better martial artist and generally mellowing out. Being that Frieza is pretty much responsible for all of Vegeta's atrocities, it makes sense that Frieza would be his greatest enemy to overcome in order to completely reclaim his identity. Unless Frieza directly attacked them in that moment he would be let go. Within the Dragon Ball fan community, many consider the FriezaSaga to be one of the best parts of the series, but it also had a harmful effect on the beloved manga. Vegeta fights his former boss, gloating that he has become a Super Saiyan, but as Frieza shockingly realizes they are somewhat evenly matched, Vegeta abruptly tells him to transform and reveal his true strength. Gohan tries to save him, but when Frieza stops him, an incredibly angry Gohan easily beats down Frieza and pummels him with many ki blasts. . The issue is that this has been Gohan's primary point of conflict since all the way back to the "Majin Buu" saga.
